F.G. Tatnall Award

 

The F.G. Tatnall Award, established in 1967, recognizes individuals who have made outstanding service contributions to the Society through participation on ad hoc and standing committees and/or in elective and appointed positions. The award citation reads, "for long and distinguished service to the Society."

Nominees are sought from the general membership.

2012 F.G. Tatnall Award: Arun Shukla

Arun Shukla received his B.S. from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and his M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in Mechanical Engineering. He is currently the Simon Ostrach Professor at the University of Rhode Island. He has also served as the Clark B. Millikan Visiting Professor at the California Institute of Technology and Visiting Professor at IIT Kanpur. Dr. Shukla is a Fellow of the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM), American Academy of Mechanics, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.  He is also a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. He has received the M.M. Frocht Award, B .J. Lazan Award and the Murray Medal from SEM. In 2003, Dr. Shukla served as the President of SEM of which he has been a member since 1977.  He has served as the Technical Editor of the journal “Experimental Mechanics” and currently serves on the Editorial Boards of several key engineering journals. He has also served the National Research Council, on the United States National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Dr. Shukla received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT, Kanpur in 2009. Along with his many graduate students and post docs, he has published more than 300 papers in refereed journals and proceedings. Dr. Shukla has authored and edited 5 books, and has delivered numerous plenary and keynote lectures.
